A stunning collection of poems that touch upon the most pressing issues of our time, by an award-winning poet who was one of the most dynamic and highly regarded figures of her generation. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I can't believe this book has only one previous review. This is one of my top ten favorite volumes of contemporary poetry, and I read a lot of poetry. It's masterful, lush, musical, gorgeous, powerful, and stab-you-in-the-heart good. A great gift for a poetry-loving friend or for your poetry-loving self.
Tragic & Empowering Verses
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
Don't get me wrong: I DID "love" quite a few poems in this book; there's "sex & death & heroin & homosexuality & fear & loathing" and very beautifully written verses really DO "hit home" and they hit HARD. Parts of the long-poem "Suite for Emily" I remember to this day. (((It's been a couple years.))) Others, however . . . I'm sure that her "style" and use of "foams" was/is completely over-my-head. Yusef Komunyakaa and Norman Dubie write elegant tributes and it really is shamefull that she died at 40 in a "car accident," as reported. Get the _Collected Poems_, too.
