The O'Neill System of Hand to Hand Combat was the standard system of self defense used by the United States military in the 1960's and 1970's.. The book presents a chronological view of the system from 1942 to the late 1970's, using manuals and never before seen documents and photographs.
This review is not an attack on the author or the book itself but a critic on the books' subject mr. Pat O'Neill(FIRST SPECIAL SERVICE FORCE).its said that he worked closely with fairbairn back in Shanghai and both were accomplished martial artist.fairbairn participated in several brawls during his tenure with the smp which gave him enough insight into to what worked and what didn't,since O'Neill was such a close associate what puzzles me is his ridiculous fighting system he puts forth during the Vietnam era,why the flat footed off balanced kicks and stances are absolutely ludicrous why i'd bite my own finger off if I could find someone who used this stuff and lived to tell the tale(check out the fm 21-150 1954 and 1963 versions) I've known veterans who scoffed at these tactics and for a man whom supposedly had combat experience there is indeed something amiss.
