Having saved her money all year to buy an orange on the one day a year that the barges bring supplies to her Alaskan village, Annie realizes she must share her precious fruit with her sulky cousin. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book will interest anybody who likes to explore what it's like to live in a different culture. Also, it's actively written, not boring. The main character plans to buy a rare treat on the once a year day, then finds herself confronted with an opportunity to share. The parallel drawn between the rare treat and getting to know another person is very touching and lasting. Third graders and older will enjoy this story. I'm an adult. I first read it as an adult. And I just added it to my library--the one I share with all my friends and family. If I could give it 10 stars, I would!
