For the dwelling place of the Word is the Son of Man and His Truth is Love The beautiful and exotic collection of 1st century Odes - in a new translation from the original manuscripts. If you have a shelf just for spiritual books then this may be for you! They have been described as 'hauntingly beautiful' and I have tried to let the original Aramaic speak for itself by following the literal meaning of the words as they were written down. They naturally seemed to flow poetically in English, so I let their beauty shine. If this is your first time hearing about these Odes it's not a surprise - they are quite obscure and barely survived, only being fully rediscovered in 1909. The early scholars soon realised they had unearthed a jewel, but are they Jewish, Christian or Gnostic? The language of the Odist touches on all 3 of these spiritual streams defying all attempts to categorise! Talking of the Odist, it is my conviction the most likely author is Mary Magdalene herself and I invite you to speculate on this possibility as you read them No matter your spiritual background, they contain something for everyone and many surprises I'm sure you will enjoy reading them and entering their unique and unforgettable atmosphere The opening of Ode 28: Like the wings of doves over their nestlings and their nestlings' beaks toward their beaks, so Her wings, of the Spirit, are over my heart My heart is delighted and it leaps, like a babe leaps in the womb of its mother
