Chris had always wondered about the ladder stretching toward the sky, its rungs gleaming like polished seashells. No one in town dared climb it some said it led to nowhere, others whispered it reached the stars. But when a gust of wind carried a shimmering scale down from the hole above, Chris knew he had to see what lay beyond.
With a determined leap, he grasped the ladder and climbed. The higher he went, the lighter he felt, as if gravity itself was loosening its grip. When he reached the edge of the hole, the world flipped suddenly, he was plunging into cool water, sinking into an ocean suspended in the sky.
