The North Fork Years

By: Hollis, J. C.

At eight years old, Ben Lawson leaves New York to spend ten weeks working on his Uncle Jack's Montana cattle ranch. He expects horses, open country, and adventure. What he finds is work.

At North Fork Ranch, nothing is handed to him. Jack teaches him to care for Scout before riding him, finish a job before moving on, own his mistakes, watch cattle instead of simply following them, and earn trust one ordinary day at a time. Summers become years. Ben grows from a curious city boy into a capable young man who can work beside the ranch hands instead of behind them.

But North Fork changes more than the way Ben rides or works cattle. As his talent with computers grows alongside his understanding of ranching, two parts of his life begin to point toward the same future.

The North Fork Years is a coming-of-age story about family, work, responsibility, and the place that quietly becomes part of who you are.
