Southeast Washington geology is unique with three major occurrences over millions of years: Columbia River Basalt Group lava floods, tectonic uplifts, and Missoula ice age floods. Each of these events has molded the landscape to what is seen today. From layered lava flows and cliffs, uplifted hills and ranges, blown in sands to ancient lake sediments are observable from the roadside or a short hike. This guide is for the non-geologist with easily understandable language to learn about southeast Washington landforms and to visit. This guide is not a definitive work but an opening page of the vast hard work done by many geologists over the last hundred years. Due diligent was done to read and summarize their work and discoveries. All locations of geological sites maybe found quickly by copying the listed coordinate and pasting the coordinate into Google Earth or Google Maps.
