Paul Doherty fan!

I love anything Paul Doherty writes! I love his Hugh Corbett series, Athelstan.....his research into the history he writes about is phenomenal. When I read his stories I feel as though I'm right there in the middle of that century and can smell the smells and see the sights. His books are the only ones I keep! They are my treasures!

Too much padding

I like the characters and the plot, but the book is full of disgusting descriptions repeated over and over. You know, once is plenty. Perhaps the book wasn't quite long enough and the only thing Doherty could think of to lengthen it was to pad it with verbal pictures of the revolting environment. Granted, these descriptions are true, but enough already! Given that this is the first book I've read in is series, I doubt I'll read another.
