Cats go their own way

Extremely nice scarry tale for kids. We bought the German translation in 1994 and read it often at night to our oldest son, who really loved the story. I bought the English translation for my sisters' kids, they liked the book too. Unfortunately for the English translation, the German and Swedish versions have more rhyme in the conversation. E.g., there are 'Tante Esther' and 'Tante Rosenante', and 'Onkel Adalbert'. The litle man in the attic is called 'Lumpestump'.The cat's name is 'Funkelauge', shinny eyes, hard to translate rhythmically. Much of the fun of the story is in immitating the rhythm of the voices. Perhaps not by accident, (Swedish author) Stieg Larsson's fine mystery (the original title translates to 'Menn who hate women') has essentially the same ending.
