As the daughter and daughter-in-law of stroke victims, and a believer in prevention when possible, I was most interested in the bold subtitle of this book - "Prevent Your Heart Attack or Stroke". I have seen first-hand the physical and emotional devastation stroke can bring about, not only to the victims, but to their family members. I rushed to read this book, and was quite impressed with its straightforward and concise information. There is more to know than just cholesterol count! The book is a quick read, with specific topics and summaries, including suggestions as pointed as "Early Warnings - What to Do". The information is practical and personal, including case studies that illustrate how even the most seemingly unlikely candidates may have unknown problems and symptoms. The facts in this book need to be widely known - read it and pass it on to your family and friends!

As a 59 year old internist, I am acutely aware of the fragility of life. Atherosclerosis (`hardening of the arteries') leading to stroke and heart disease account for the most frequent causes of death and disability in the last few decades of life. All of us have family members and friends with these problems. With the epidemic of morbid obesity, hypertension, diabetes and smoking, more and more people are having these tragic problems at earlier ages. My wife and I decided to attend an angiology screening and received this book and a color copy of our screening results. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in preventing these problems while they are `healthy' in order to prolong the quality and quantity of life. Early symptoms can be subtle, vague or absent. All adults would do well to absorb the important messages contained. The author has done a great job condensing the present scientific knowledge about the subject into a readable and short book. Make no mistake, complex subjects are presented in a way which are easy to absorb. The examples humanize and make the concepts relevant to everyone. The powerful illustrations are easy to understand. The authors intention was to empower each of us to take charge of our health by making lifestyle changes and follow-up with medical professionals. Making these changes benefits everyone, but adopting these recommendations early could add quality years to you and your loved ones lives. This small book is a must read for everyone! Your vascular destiny is in your hands! Strongly recommended.
