Great characters and well executed technique.

I'm always impressed when an author is able to write a multi-POV story as well as this. Every character switch comes at a reasonable time and all the characters are well rounded as individuals. The setting of Cape Cod is vividly established with great descriptive language throughout. To me, this is also a much better execution of the " realistic dysfunctional family" dynamic than what many other books have tried ('This is Where I Leave You' comes to mind in particular). The problems these people go through are very real, and I feel they're portrayed in an accurate way. I could see how some might think a couple plotlines get campy or melodramatic at times, but I think it never overstays it's welcome or ruins the enjoyment of the rest of the book.
