The New World

The New World is a series of poems about the post Cold War era. Exploring the aftermath of wars, social upheaval, and growing regimentation in our culture (contrasted to the beauties of the natural world), with an apocalyptic vision of the future, these poems are presented in language that communicates directly and simply, laced with startling images that burn themselves into your consciousness.

A selection of unique and lyrical poetry

The New World is a selection of unique and lyrical poetry, as well as evocative stream-of-consciousness passages. Meditating profoundly upon the Vietnam War and its aftermath, The New World sees the good, the bad, and the lice-infested with equal weight in a moving, spiritual wordplay drama. Wedding Bells: In early evening,/at rest on a plastic garbage bag/on the sidewalk,/curled with his back to traffic,/fetal on his right side,/facing the wall of onyx tiles that frame the window of Victoria Pastry,/under the display of elaborate wedding cakes,/without shoes, his feet/black as the tiles but without the shine,/he is chattering over and over/shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up/to the hopeful tourist brides who stand above him/leaning slightly to admire/the triple and quadruple-tiered white castle/wedding cakes in the window/manned by tiny grooms in tuxedos/and brides with delicate veils/who smile forever/onto Stockton Street.
