Brad is working on a Top Secret government project in a software company in Pittsburgh. The project is classified as Top Secret, because it involves the development of cutting-edge, machine-learning algorithms, and other artificial intelligence techniques. Those algorithms and techniques, coupled with a vast database of human DNA, will be used by government medical agencies to infer genetic predispositions to medical pathologies. Brad and his coworker, Larry, soon realize that government security agencies have coopted the unfinished software for a more sinister use-one that could endanger innocent, private U. S. citizens. Working by themselves, Brad and Larry cannot uncover the real intent of the security agencies-in order to determine if any laws are being broken, and to determine what they should do about it. They need enlist an expert to help them. But, old rivalries resurface when a mutual friend, Jan, joins the team to help them. Suspicion by the government security agencies causes the formidable Dr. Wertzcastle to scrutinize the software development team, and to seek out any potential whistleblowers. The software team creates some "bait" to trap the government agents in their pursuit of the whistleblowers.
