The New Testament and Psalms is a new version of the Bible that speaks more directly than ever before to today's social concerns, especially the move towards universal inclusivity. In this version biblical language concerning people with physical afflictions has been revised to avoid personifying individuals by their disabilities; language referring to men and women has been corrected to reflect this inclusiveness precisely; dark and light imagery has been revised to avoid equating "dark" as a term for persons of color with "dark" as a metaphor for evil; references to Judaism have been corrected to avoid imprecise allusions in relation to Christ's crucifixion; God language has been improved to reflect more precisely a universal concept of God and Jesus Christ. The New Testament and Psalms reflects the newest scholarly work on the most reliable biblical manuscripts available. The principles applied by the editors are consistent with the accepted requirements applied to all respected English language versions of the Bible: close reference to the original language texts and current scholarly material, and a consistent scholarly orientation throughout the work. Why get so upset and defensive?

This translation is complied by accomplished scholars, and serves a needed purpose. If you don't like it, don't read it! I enjoy this translation, and find it helpful in my devotional life. The great thing is that we CAN read what we want to read, and we CAN ask the questions we want to ask, and we CAN question established authority, even religious authority. I firmly believe that God can handle it, and it is our right as Americans. This is is a point the other reviewers seem to miss.

Well executed inclusive version for use in worship

This is an excellent resource for inclusive worship. While other translations / editions may be better for use in study, Oxford's The New Testament and Psalms - An Inclusive Version is invaluable to provide text for lectors in worship services where inclusivity is at issue. This Bible avoids exclusion of women and minorities, and clarifies concepts in terms which do not have the usual cultural impediments of western-centered language. Through all these efforts, the translators have done a competent job of holding fast to the original message.Every church which tries to do readings in a contemporary, inclusive spirit should have a copy of this Bible.
