The New Resource World Order: BRICS, the G7, and the Contest for Global Leadership

By Marcus R. Whitaker

Can the nations with the resources also become the nations that set the rules?

Debates about the future of global power often begin with population totals, economic rankings, and maps of oil fields or mineral deposits. The harder question is how those assets become dependable influence.

In The New Resource World Order, Marcus R. Whitaker establishes the context for the contest between BRICS and the G7. He compares their demographic and economic weight, explains why different measures of GDP can tell different stories, and follows the path from resource access to manufacturing, infrastructure, finance, and sustained cooperation.

The stakes reach well beyond diplomacy. A changing balance can affect the price of a vehicle, the reliability of electricity, the location of skilled jobs, and the capacity to keep essential industries operating. The book examines what stronger BRICS influence could mean for American superpower status, the international role of the dollar, and the foundations of Western living standards.

Comparative tables, analytical figures, and documented sources guide readers through three possible paths: stronger BRICS leadership, G7 renewal, and an order in which different powers lead different systems. Each path depends on choices about investment, technology, institutions, and alliances.

This opening book provides the framework for the four numbered investigations that follow. It gives readers a practical way to judge who is positioned to lead, what evidence supports that judgment, and why the outcome remains open.
