Is it possible to think it's wrong to be LGBT without being anti-queer? Side B Christianity promises a gentler, more accepting reality for queer people: You can still be gay, lesbian, bisexual, or whatever else and still be embraced by the Church and God's love... so long as you commit yourself to never being in a gay relationship and accept that while being gay isn't a sin, it isn't what God wants, either. After all, if you were okay with queerness, you'd probably just be affirming (Side A). Oh my. That sounds more than a bit homophobic. Drawing on public statements from prominent Side B voices and organizations, this essay examines the gap between professed compassion and the belief that queerness is some sort of "wrong." It isn't wrong. You do deserve the new old homophobia. You deserve to be loved.
