The New Mother's Survival Guide: A Primer for the First Year of Motherhood

Practical, upbeat, humorous--yet realistic--help for new mothersElizabeth Wright became aware of the need for this book shortly after giving birth to her first child. Faced with the reality of having a baby in her home, she started frantically reading through the standard works on childraising. She was surprised to learn that while these books provide a wealth of information on a baby's development and growth, they do precious little to help the new mother cope with her new life. "Obviously," she writes, "the people who wrote these books had never been in the trenches--at home taking care of Baby. I needed to know what to do when my baby curled up like a pillbug in her car seat and screamed herself maroon. I needed a book written by a mother who had not yet achieved complete amnesia about childbirth and the first year of motherhood."The New Mother's Survival Guide will be a beacon and a friend for all new mothers who are looking for valuable information based on real-life experience.

A "Funny" book about that first year of Motherhood

I recieved this book from my mother when I was pregnant with my first child. I didn't really read it until my daughter was 4 months old, but it still had me in stitches. This book is meant to look at that first year of motherhood from an honest, yet funny approach. I really wouldn't use it for reference book like a Dr. Sears or Dr. Spock type book (although there are references and numbers you can call for more information on certain topics/subjects). This is meant to be a humerous, yet sometimes very truthful book about the first year of motherhood. It shows we all have many of the same issues and concerns, but shows them in a funny manner. Yes, some of what she tells may be a bit extreme, but that is what makes it so funny. You can still relate to what she is saying and may even have some similar expereinces come up.I would definitely recommend this book. Especially if you are looking for something humerous. I have given this book to many of my "new mommy" friends and each and everyone has enjoyed it.

Loved it!

This book was so funny I almost ripped out my c-section stitches laughing over it. My husband liked it, and even my father loved it. He said he wished he'd read it when my mom first had me, he would have understood what was going on with her a lot better. I feel like the author's a friend of mine. She has really helped me through this tough first year. I'll definitely pass it on to my friends. THANKS!!!

Great advice and wit - just what I needed with a new baby!

This book is a must for every new mom - it is "Erma Bombeck meets Dr. Spock" and it contains everything you need for that first year. It's practical and funny and I couldn't put it down - it was my life and thoughts and problems all right there in front of me. This book addresses the real issues that are left out of so many other parenting books. You can look up a specific topic, or just read it for fun and information. My husband loved it, too - it's the only parenting book he's ever picked up for longer than 5 minutes! I'm sure this author, her husband and her children continue to live with great style and humor - I hope she writes more to prepare us for later stages.
