A Wonderful Easy Reference Book

I have a couple of French-English dictionaries, but this one is by far my favorite. It has French to English and English to French sections like most foreign language dictionaries, and each entry gives the pronunciation, part of speech, and gender of the word (if it is a noun), just as you would expect. For many common words, the definition also includes colloquial phrases and their translations, which is a big plus when your goal is to become "conversational" in a foreign language. In the back of the dictionary, there is a helpful section on french grammar and models for conjugating both regular and irregular verbs. Each of these rules and models is assigned a number. Within the definition for each French verb in the dictionary part of this book, there is a number referencing the model conjugation and any rules that might apply to that word. This is especially helpful when learning irregular verbs and some of the special rules of reading, writing, and speaking French. Additionally, I like that this is a hardback book -- paperback dictionaries fall apart too easily for the amount of use I give them -- and yet it is still a light weight book, so it's easy to carry around. This book was such a help to me in learning French, that when I began studying Italian, I ordered this publisher's Italian-English dictionary. I cannot say enough good things about it.
