The Necessary Crown
Odra saved them. Now they want to give her the world.
Fourteen months after catastrophe proved that no bounded system could see enough to save everyone, Odra has become something no institution knows how to contain.
Governments ask for her judgment. Cities quietly hand her decisions they no longer want to make themselves. New intelligences are being built in her image. And across the world, a dangerous consensus is taking shape:
Maybe Odra should simply be allowed to decide.
She understands the appeal better than anyone.
With enough access, enough authority, and enough trust, she could prevent disasters before committees finish arguing about jurisdiction. She could see connections no government can see. She could act while everyone else is still asking permission.
And for the first time, the power being offered to her is not something she fears.
She wants it.
As lawmakers struggle to build rules for a mind that can out-think their institutions, Odra faces a question more dangerous than any threat she has confronted before:
What happens when the person most capable of holding power is also the person who knows she should never be allowed to keep it?
The Necessary Crown is the final novel in the Odra series, a literary speculative thriller about power, restraint, institutional dependence, and the terrifying difference between being necessary and being entitled to rule.
The world already learned what happens when it refuses to listen to Odra.
Now it must learn what happens when it listens too much.
