Still the Best!

Considering it was written so many decades ago, and also considering so much of what the Navajo Nation has experienced since WWII, Kluckhohn's "The Navaho" remains the best history of the Navajo people (as described by a non-Navajo). Modern students may yearn for an updating, but Kluckhohn did an excellent job of explaning the origin mythology, culture, and history of the Navajo, while also leaving us a valuable look at "the People" as they were in the 1930s and 1940s. Every serious student of the Southwest and Native American history should have a copy of this wonderful book.
