If you like natural history, animals, and flora you need to read this book. It is very interesting. I learned more about China than I anticipated.

This is an excellent introduction to the natural history of China. Buy this book, new if available, used otherwise, as a start for understanding China's amazing biodiversity. There is nothing like it. The main criticism is that it should be 1000 pages with multiple authors, covering many more subjects in depth. On the other hand, such a book may already exist in Mandarin and the rest of the world just doesn't know about it. A second edition would be very helpful, reflecting the enormous amount of research that has been done in China in the last decade,
