Underrated.

Well, this book did not get as much attention as it deserved. The lack of coverage was not due to a quirk of fate though. The fact is that the authors--who really have written a valuable defense of marriage and the family here--started off with a strategic error. Before chapter one they presented a 25 page manifesto stating their views, what they stood for, and what they affirm. This was well-done but it clearly negatively impacted its readability. Nobody wants to read a manifesto (see Marx lol). In my opinion, they probably should have waited until the end to issue their manifesto or relegated it to an appendix. That being said, there's some fantastic information here. Already, in my own writing, I have quoted on two occasions a magnificent paragraph that Carlson and Mero have concerning the violence endemic to lesbian relationships and the way in which they behave more violently than heterosexuals do. Socialism's deleterious effect on the family was another excellent point. I'm an individualist but I agree with the authors about family being the bedrock of society. Really, there is a lot of quality stuff here but the message was somewhat sabotaged by a poor organizational decision at the start.
