Twin brothers Tufty and Jonathan Lombardi are invited to Brazil by their uncle, Julio Lombardi, a well-known journalist who is working on a story for an international news agency. From the very beginning, it is clear that something is wrong. Uncle Julio does not meet them as arranged at S o Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport in S o Paulo, and when they arrive at the guesthouse, they discover that one of their suitcases has been exchanged for that of an M. Dias-the same Mr. Dias who is shot dead from a moving car shortly after arriving from Johannesburg.

Late that night, robbers attempt to break in through the boys' bedroom window. The twins suddenly realize that they themselves have become targets-and that the criminals will not hesitate to strike again.
