Authors: Hakeem Muhammad, Esq is a lawyer focused on protecting the human rights of African Americans within marginalized inner cities also known as "the hood." He is an attorney at People Law Office where he litigates police misconduct and police brutality cases. Previously, he worked as a defense attorney for the Committee for Public Counsel Services where he defended low-income people accused of crime in Malcolm X's former neighborhood of Roxbury, Massachusetts. Attorney Muhammad has spearheaded legal efforts to combat racism against African Americans within the criminal legal system and assisted legal efforts to challenge wrongful convictions of African American men who gave false confessions to crimes as a result of police torture. Prior to law school, Mr. Muhammad lectured on Critical Race Theory at programs Harvard University, the University of California-Berkeley, and Michigan State University. Shareef Muhammad (Frank Beane) is a professor of history in Atlanta, Georgia. He has taught at Atlanta Metropolitan College, Georgia State University, and Gwinnett Technical College.
