Sweet story with beautiful illustrations

I bought this book for my older (now grown) children back in the early 1990s. They loved it, and our youngest child now loves it, too. It is a gentle story about friendship with beautiful illustrations. A perfect quiet book for bedtime.

Gorgeous in a quiet way. The friendship formed between the solitary man and his one true friend: the mole, feels sacred and crucial and the stuff of what it means to be someone's home.An unusual and lovely book.
