Private Investigator, Charlie Kain, is employed to solve a mystery. Edward Bruce, Chairman and founder of The Adams Research Institute, wants Charlie to investigate the disappearance of his childhood friend, Eve Adams, a physicist. But Charlie is not engaged to look into Eve's first disappearance. It was never solved! Instead, he is called in to explore her second disappearance. Investigating this strange mystery, Charlie begins to realize that most of the entire human race qualify as fully paid-up members of The Mushroom Club.
