The Most Hilarious Thing That Ever Happened: And Other Strange Stories

"The air was cold and brisk on that starry night, and my breath spewed from my mouth like a dragon, a comforting reminder that I was still alive and breathing. The snow-covered trees and wide-open meadow were cast in that eerie black-and-white light, the awesome presence of the full moon hanging high overhead. I could see the warm lights of my father's humble cabin in the distance behind me on the edge of the meadow. The trees behind it loomed darkly, as if to pounce at any moment. The dull lantern on the front porch swung creakily in the slight chill wind. All I could see of it was the faint point of flickering light swinging back and forth, back and forth." From the story 'I Leapt Into the Night' in "The Most Hilarious Thing That Ever Happened". "The Most Hilarious Thing That Ever Happened" is a collection of quirky, creative fiction short stories by Gabriel Morris, author of "Kundalini and the Art of Being" (Station Hill Press, 2008); "Following My Thumb: A Decade of Unabashed Wanderlust" (Soul Rocks Books, 2012); "The Mystery of Woman" (Soul Rocks Books, 2012); and several others. In the early 1990s Morris was a creative writing student at the University of Alaska, taking creative writing classes every semester. He penned several dozen short stories in the process, each one stranger and more unique than the previous. "I Leapt Into the Night" tells the tale of a young girl obsessed with astronomy in Alaska. "A Struggle for the Throne of an Unknown Enemy" is about an elderly postman who finds a mysterious, and menacing chair inside a public post office box. "The Peculiar Bus Ride" is about a recovering alcoholic who finds himself in a very bizarre scenario while trying to take the bus home one night. "The Miscalculation of a Modern-Day Mathematician" chronicles the chaos that ensues when a scientist determines that the wheel is actually a faulty device, that doesn't adhere to basic scientific principles. "The Old Man Under the Tree" tells of an old man sleeping peacefully beneath a tree alone in the middle of nowhere, when he's awakened, and very annoyed, by a chirping yellow bird. An epic battle of wits and wills follows. (See below for a list of every story title.) If you're in the mood for some writing that will make you think and also laugh, that will surprise you, and make you look at reality in a slightly different way, then you will undoubtedly enjoy "The Most Hilarious Thing That Ever Happened".
