Jeannie, a fifth grader during World War II, supports the war effort at home and writes to a soldier overseas while enduring the dislike of her harsh teacher. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I never knew the person who wrote this book, but I knew her daughter. She died before I got to know her and reading this book was the only way. It is a story about life in WWII and being in the "smart" class of fifth grade. Her mother makes her wear galoshes (how on earth do you spell that?)-such are the daily problems (simple yet entertaining) that you read about during the book. It was especially touching for me because (as I mentioned before) few people know that it is a true story. It is an easy read, and a short book. It's great for any cold and rainy day!
