Excellent Resource about the Mohawk Yesterday and Today

Well-researched and lushly illustrated with artwork, photographs, and maps, this book is an excellent source of information about the Mohawks, both in the past and even more importantly, today. Written by an Iroquois descendant and in consultation with Mohawk tribal leaders and cultural center caretakers, the information covered includes such areas as the geography of the Northeastern woodlands, longhouse construction and life, first encounters with Europeans, the Mohawk role in the American Revolution, the Constitution, continuing struggles over land issues, and others. Cultural information includes the Mohawk language, useful and decorative arts, and religious ceremonies and customs, among other subjects. What makes the book unique is its emphasis on the continuing life of the Mohawk today, taken from a Mohawk perspective.Illustrations are in full color and well-designed alongside the text to catch readers' interest. Pictures include original artwork by Mohawk artist John Kahionhes Fadden and many contemporary photographs of the Mohawk people living today.
