Indeed, men make mistakes, and the repercussions of such could be far reaching. Those mistakes are, however, avoidable if the source from where they spring could be identified and nipped in the bud. That conclusion is what forms the point of departure of The Mistakes of Men by me. The book begins by attempting an unbiased assessment of the nature of man which has had great influence on the course of human history especially as regards how he, man, has handled or rather mishandled key components of his existence such as the opposite sex, money, power, his belief systems as well as differences.
The totality of human history can be reduced to individual human actions. In other words, actions could be described as the bedrock of our living reality. Actions, too, are spurred by either intents or impulses which are equally forged in the canal of our already established propensities - of which are inclinations, dispositions, tendencies, or preferences are founded. These moulds, which could be beastly or divine or anything in between, are common to all humans and the direction to which the pendulum swings is largely dependent on the environment an individual is nurtured; which is mostly man made.
This core has been largely overlooked whenever change is desired. We follow the chain from results to the actions that birth them, right to the intents from which they stem, without paying any attention to why such intents are born in the first place. The failure to unravel that seeming mystery - and possibly address it - has led to repeated patterns of tragic human missteps through the course of history.
Like the archers' arrow which must focus on its target as the most important aim, this book tries to avoid unnecessary details on the subjects it has isolated for scrutiny in order to point out minute and negligible defects as well as misconceptions (some of which still hold sway even though already debunked by time and science), which can be easily overlooked but possess the ability to boomerang and reshape the course of human history. The Mistakes of Men, as succinctly titled, therefore is a profiling of human missteps of which if corrected, tragic outcomes could be minimised in the interim, and the world might just begin to edge towards its redemption in the long run.
