This is a soldier's memoir of his time in the 11th Air Assault (Test) division that became the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) and was sent to Vietnam in 1965. In addition to the horrors of war, the book shares the unlucky breaks the unit got as well as humorous incidents that happened during his time with the Cav. It follows roughly three years of his life from what led to him going into the service to his time in the deadly battle of LZ X-Ray in the Ia Drang Valley to the aftermath of that service. It then catches up with the Ia Drang survivors years afterward as they eventually reunite with one another.
