Book Overview

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts continues the hauntingly spectacular Lost Bride Trilogy with book two, The Mirror.

When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. In the present she finds portraits of brides. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets.

Then one night the mirror appears and Sonya glides through this looking glass, into the past--and sees a bride murdered on her wedding day, the circle of gold torn from her finger. It is a scene that will play out again and again--a centuries-old curse that must be broken--and a puzzle she must solve if there is any hope of breaking the curse.

Good read but here's my thoughts...

The prologue did a good job summarizing what the last book was about without giving too much away. The only thing I'm still not liking is when Trey calls Sonya cutie. That struck me as a little creepy. I think the series is a little bit spookier than Starling House, if not that. I'm fascinated by the amount of research that Sonya does on the history of the murdered brides and the history of the Poole family. It's also fascinating to me that with each new discovery, it feels like Sonya is getting closer and closer to solving the mystery. Even though I don't mind the day to day activities, I was starting to feel like the story was dragging on. Yesterday (July 3rd), I considered DNFing this book because I wasn't reaching for it but then I decided to take a break because I didn't want to give up on it. The way I see it is Nora Roberts had an idea for a story and the fact that I nearly gave tells me that I'm disrespecting her work. So in conclusion, if you enjoy reading a story about an ordinary woman living in a haunted house with mostly friendly spirits (one is difficult to live with but one Sonya tolerates) as she navigates her rollercoaster of a life; then this might be the one for you. You're the best judge of character though. So don't take my review to heart since everyone has their own preference for what they like reading.

This book is incredible

This book has amazing twists and turns. Could not put it down! Loved it and all the characters. Everyone should read this book, especially if you read the first one in the series
