Brothers Rob and E-roy live in a post-technological future carefully controlled by a Central System and its robots called "Personals". Human education and psychology have been perfected; the humans they serve are stronger, smarter and better-looking than ever. But even the best human minds can no longer be trusted to wield the machines their forefathers created, and so sports have become our main outlet and ambition. Parallel to this steady-state world of optimized technology and mechanical servants are the small communities of robot-hating "Self-Reliants" who resolutely tend their farms using 19th century technology, as far removed from Central as possible.
