The Milkies' Tap

The Milkies' Tap is a magical breastfeeding weaning story for curious toddlers. Malaika is a bright and happy 2 year old, who has nursed since birth. When the time comes to stop nursing, she has questions and is ready to find out the answers by herself.

Through her adventures, Malaika learns all about stopping to nurse. She also learns what kinds of animals nurse and which ones don't. Most important of all, she comes to the realization that, even if the milk is gone, she can rest assured her mom will always be by her side

Toddlers understand more of the world than what we often give them credit for. When confronted to the idea to stop nursing, it is just normal they may have some questions, even though they cannot articulate them yet. Answering their doubts through a magical adventure story gives them the opportunity to understand weaning in their own terms.

This book is ideal for: Helping toddlers through growing up transitions and breastfeeding weaning in a respectful mannerCelebrating family love, strengthening the bond between mothers and children beyond the breastfeeding stageFeeding the curiosity of toddlers about the natural world

This story is for mothers and children that have chosen breastfeeding, particularly those who have chosen extended breastfeeding into toddlerhood. Sometimes mothers that have chosen extended breastfeeding are confronted with the need to wean their toddlers. Job responsibilities, the arrival of a new sibling, or interference with other activities like sleep or meals, may pose challenges for an extended breastfeeding journey. This story allowed my first child and I to process feelings about the end of our extended breastfeeding journey with magical realism. Years after its original creation, it is still a book favorite at my own home.
