I read "The Middle Fork: A Political Novel" while vacationing in Grand Rapids Michigan. Seemed appropriate somehow. Having seen numerous movies about life on the river, I found this novel to be much like wearing an old pair of jeans. The story following a similar line to it's conclusion, however bringing in aspects of global warming, something I believe exists, made the story very compelling. That even while enjoying the peace and serenity of the setting, the life issues that surround each of us could not be squelched, even in this setting. If you want to discover what's really important, take the few hours it takes to read this novel and you might find your answer. G. Lawrence
A combination political discussion and novel, highly recommended

It sometimes takes serious crisis to put aside pettiness. "The Middle Fork" tells the story of a group of outdoorsmen who go on a camping and kayaking trip. The discussion between them turns political, and raises tensions very high between all of those involved. But when catastrophe strikes, their opinions begin to grow more and more meaningless. "The Middle Fork" is a combination political discussion and novel, highly recommended.
Rick Glaze Shows We Benefit From Finding The "Middle" of Issues

With kayaking and adventure-seeking as the backdrop, THE MIDDLE FORK by author Rick Glaze allows readers of all interests to follow the storyline which encourages dialogue and disagreements when discussing the issues of the day. No matter what side you fall on politically or when considering social issues, you will benefit from the dialogue of the characters which show how must we can learn when we listen and share with others. This is a triumph for the author but for readers and discussion groups as well who can use it to converse over issues they care passionately about while being respectful of those with whom we might disagree.
rapids, politics, romance

The Middle Fork melds whitewater adventure, political discussions and romance into a short, entertaining novel. The white water descriptions of maneuvering and reading of currents, avoiding rocks and holes provides a perfect background for the conflicts that arise. At times, the political arguments made me uncomfortable, but I guess that is part of the point. I find myself tired of back and forth arguments, when it feels like we just need to pull together and solve problems. Ultimately, the power of the river sweeps over the words. I highly recommend reading The Middle Fork.
Enlightening look into the characters and adventure.

This book was a wonderful and unusual read with unusual motivation for the characters. And politics were woven into the mix. I highly recommend it.
