This book has become a collector's item

The book is a high-quality, perfect-bound, lay flat binding. It is still the ONLY hiking guide I know of that uses GPS coordinates to get you to places that are described. Thousands of landmarks in the NY/NJ/PA area are described, and we've had lots of fun with it. Trails, campsites, fishing spots, caves, cliffs, scenic places- it's all there! Unique, to say the least - with a section for almost every aspect of the camping experience, including recipes, and some jokes & stories to tell around the campfire.

This is the most unusual book on hiking and camping I've ever seen. It starts off with a touching introduction to the author's late father, then goes into how and why the two authors wrote the book - thay almost got lost in the woods in the Adirondacks, somewhere. After that, the authors introduce camping, hiking and basic map and compass, and have about a hundred unique ideas (hints and tips) for tenters, backpackers and such. After that, there is a few pages of quotes and murphy's laws that are really funny. The last part of the first section is a set of trail recipes, including Italian cowboy coffee. The TECHNICAL section is a well written detailed, but in laymen's terms - manual on how to use GPS - Global Positioning System to find your way in the woods, and off the beaten path. The book has hundreds of photos, diagrams, and instructions for modifying equipment, and making the most use out of your GPS equipment. Lastly, there ia about 100+ pages of TREKS with hundreds of GPS coordinates to take you from Adirondacks, Catskill, Bear Mountain, Harriman State Park, Palisades and the Hudson River, and all the way down to the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. This is an excellent book, and if you like to camp, hike, or wander off the beaten path, you should get it. I bought my copy from Campmoor sporting goods. The publisher maintains a cool web sit too, where you can get all sorts of stuff like GPS receivers and microcomputers and other books on GPS
