Among seemingly everyone's favorite movie genres are films depicting New York City circa 1965-1980 as a dying city. Well here is a book that's more vivid and wild than any of the films I've seen. The author had a job portfolio that can't exist in today's poltical cultral landscape, he was the "street cooler" for the Mayor, placing him in the middle of every potential flashpoint or insane riot in a period of constant friction and decay. What a fun read.

a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at New York City during the l960s when rioting in the streets of most of our major cities brought our country to the brink of a second revolution. reads like fiction. Unlike Spin City, this one tells it like it was. a very good read.
