The Masterbook of Sonatinas: Volume 1: Foundations
Twenty-five sonatinas. Twenty-five musical worlds. One beginning.
Foundations opens Victor Sinadinoski's Masterbook of Sonatinas, an expanding collection of piano works written for intermediate and advanced pianists, piano students, teachers, and performers.
Across twenty-five works, the music travels through Classical traditions, Macedonian and Balkan dance, jazz, blues, folk influences, nocturnal lyricism, cinematic landscapes, waltzes, atmospheric sound worlds, world-music colors, and contemporary pianistic textures. Each piece is designed to have its own personality, atmosphere, rhythmic language, harmonic character, and pianistic identity.
Yet the sonatinas are not simply collections of three unrelated movements.
Within each work, the movements are intended to form a larger musical journey. An idea introduced in the opening movement may return transformed in the slow movement, reappear in a new rhythmic or harmonic setting, or provide the foundation for the finale. Contrasting movements can change the emotional world of the piece while remaining connected through recurring motives, gestures, tonal relationships, rhythmic ideas, textures, and character. The result is a sense of departure, transformation, and return.
The collection is equally concerned with musical development and practical pianism. Students encounter contrasting techniques, textures, meters, articulations, harmonic colors, and styles, while performers are given pieces intended to communicate a distinct musical character rather than function merely as exercises. Foundations presents twenty-five different approaches to the piano.
The pieces can be studied individually, performed individually, or experienced as part of a larger collection.
