"Beneath wordplay, double entendres, dry sarcasm, and pop culture references is a sweet and meaningful novel about love at every stage of a relationship." --Foreword Clarion Reviews
A "Snappy intimately comic stage satire of marriage life." -Booklife
In this "delicious romp through the maze of modern wedlock", (author Rosy Cole) James and Paula, a Minneapolis couple, receive a wedding invitation from a mysterious cousin. Paula assigns James a perilous quest: to buy a wedding gift. But this must be no ordinary gift. As Paula explains, the task is:
"These two people, who, let's face it, barely knowing one another, at the beginning of their adult lives, commit to spending every day loving one another, building their shared dreams, pledging to care for and help and inspire each other no matter what happens or how either one of them may change along the way. We should give them a gift that represents everything we believe about marriage, a gift that will wish this young couple all of the joy and laughter and happiness we have had in our years together."
So they set off in search of the legendary Marriage Gift.
First, as is usual in such an adventure, they must journey to consult the wise people of their tribe (his family, her friend). Then, having gleaned what guidance they could, the couple ventures in search of this treasure, daring to delve into that vast and miraculous maze: the Mall of America.
But the gift they discover is not what they expected.
