Into the dark world of the Spanish Inquisition came a shining light - a woman of passions and secrets and extraordinary courage! This description may be from another edition of this product.
It is sad that this book is out of print. It is a wonderful tale of love while at the same time suspenseful and educating. It is set in Spain during the Inquisition and tells the fabulous story of a Jewish woman of high profile and a catholic priest who fall in love with each other despite the adverse circumstances. I wish Liliane Webb had written more books, but as far as I know, this is the only one.
Lost Book on Lost People

Oh, this book should be in print. It is a great educator and a great tale...it brings to life medieval spain in general in a way that is absorbing, visceral, and quite well-researched, in addition to highlighting a very important and tragically romantic episode of human life. This book teaches us about who we are as a species and it ought not be lost to future generations. Fun and saucy while historical and very thought provoking.
The Inquisition

This is a book that should still be found on book store shelves! A young woman who always considered herself of the "Old Christian" faith discovers she has Jewish roots. This is a terrible secret to hide in the midst of the Spanish Inquisition in the 17th century. When she falls in love with a man whose goal is to rise to a high position in the Catholic church, she must keep her secret from him in order to continue their relationship, but unbeknownst to her, he is on a secret mission on behalf of the Jews. She herself is working on an underground operation for the Jews as she presents her "Christian" side right within the court of the womanizing King Philip. I was very enmeshed with the intrigue, secrets, romance, and Inquisitional horror of this book. Besides entertaining, it was also very educational.
Entertaining and Insightful!

THE MARRANOS is a wonderful book that integrates history with a page-turning love story. Through historical fiction, a family struggles to survive in Spain during the Inquisition. The Jews must live in secret and the depth of the secrets seem to go on and on. I would highly recommend it.
