I met Floyd Goodman around 2000 at a friends' party. He was talking about his book, "The Marimba Trade". The conversation seemed like a collection of tall tales and drunken yarns. Some of the fantastic stories seemed too good to be true. He gave me a copy of the book and explained that all the names were fictitious because of the cartels' not wanting this information to see print or for that matter, the light of day. The book is a good read although it has many problems of the beginning writer. Many of the stories may seem to be unbelievable, but over the years of hanging out with Floyd, I came to realize that this book was one of his true life experiences. If you ever get a chance to meet Floyd, you'll realize that he is one of those great storytellers that you meet in strange, out of the way places. Ask him how he lost his hair and he'll tell you that it will be in his next book... Hope to see you again Floyd.
