There is evidence that the king's passion for Anne was far more marked in this letter Henry penned to her during their courtship in 1528: "In debating with myself the contents of your letters I have been put to a great agony; not knowing how to understand them, whether to my disadvantage as shown in some places, or to my advantage as in others. Still, he continued to burn for her, shoving past anything in his path in order to win her. Due to Anne's stubbornness in her stance against relations with the king that assured no lasting benefits, the king was required to resort to more drastic measures if he wished to secure a relationship with the woman he lusted for. It seemed that Anne had a propensity for becoming involved with men who were unavailable.
