After a serendipitous encounter on a train, they find themselves auditioning for a circus that just might get them there.

The strange troupe is full of talents and magic unlike any other. Its controlling ringmaster, Reginald Mandeville, runs his show like a tyrant. Will Janie and Alex handle the stops the circus makes in eery towns, unite with the misfit performers of the troupe, and manage not to get kicked out? Killed? Or worse, Janie slowly realizes... separated.
