Revelation 12:1 says, "Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars." Much dispute surrounds this interpretation. Some say she is Mary; others say she is Israel. Only one woman in the Old Testament encountered the serpent, Eve in Genesis 3. Only one woman in the New Testament encountered the serpent, this woman in Revelation 12.
