Well Reflected

Brandt's "The Man in the Mirror" was about the sixth book I read on Benedict Arnold in the past several years and whether one is pro-Arnold or anti-Arnold I believe that the book takes an objective stance. Compared to similar books, I found it an easy read yet insightful and informative. Chapters are arranged to reveal chronological stages throughout Arnold's life. There's (thankfully) not a lot of fluff or exaggeration, yet the book avoids being weighed down by blandness. A strong attempt is made, as evidenced by the title, to explain Arnold's treasonous motives by examining his inner self and I believe Brandt successfully does so. If one is attempting to gain insight and perspective on the Patriot-Hero then I'd suggest placing Brandt's book near the top of the list, but it would also be helpful to supplement your findings with other titles as well.
