This book was delightfully amazing.

I really enjoyed this book because it actually got me thinking and asking myself: If I am really enjoying my life? Do I need to take more risk? The main character Faith Wishart made up a life and boyfriend just to please her family and mostly herself. She was a little disappointed in how her life was currently going so instead of just being truthful she decides to make it up. The writing was strong and funny with is why I rated it 5 stars. There are a lot of real life emotions in this book: jealousy, fear, abandonment, and plenty of laughter along the way. I would really recommend reading this book. From the back cover of the book: Perhaps you've heard all about me? I'm Faith Wishart. I made top marks at University and now I've got a simply smashing job at a top PR firm where I'm paid a royal amount for all my brilliant ideas. My high-flying friends are as svelte as insects, and my lawyer boyfriend, Adam, is as rich and handsome as he is thoughtful. At least, that's what my mum would tell you. Because that's what I've told her. And no one has to know that I made up every bloody bit of it. I know what you're thinking, and yes, thank you. If there were a job market for great liars, I'd be CEO by now. Honestly, I didn't mean to do it. I only wanted to make Mum proud. It's just that without the lies, my life would look like, well, my life--about as riveting as an IKEA instruction booklet. The truth is, I work behind the makeup counter at Keats cosmetics where the most exciting part of my day involves trying out new lipstick-eye shadow combinations. Not exactly a prime place to cruise up the old career ladder or catch a man. Well, not a straight one, anyway. And the closest I've gotten to PR is telling a woman she'd look good in mauve. Still, Mum's happy, so I'm happy. There's just one small bump in the road: my sister, Hope. She of the world-famous Yogasmic workout video series. She who went off to Australia and had exactly the sort of adventures I've been fabricating. She who is coming home to England to get married. Which means I have to be at the wedding. With Adam. Now, I've got exactly two monghs to make my fairytale life the real thing....

An overall realistically enchanting book.

This book was a very enjoyable read for several reasons. It isn`t just another cheesy romantic comedy movie but in book form. There`s some definite "soul-searching" if you will. The main character, doesn`t merely let things take their natural course. She asks questions and talks to you, almost as if she`s hoping you`ll give her some intelligent insight. She`s very much like all of us. In high hopes that there`s someone perfect out there for us, someone made just for us. The writer made the character take the time to wonder more and seek knowledge outside of just living. The sometimes dry, semi-dark, British humor was also much appreciative to read. If you are a fan of it, you`ll be delighted to catch some of it along the pages. The book seals our fears that things are always going to be negative, and brings a sweet promise that things will become alright as they surely do. I enjoyed it. It`s a perfect light summer read and will take you away, but is sure to bring you back in a positive feeling.

More than a chick-lit

Faith Wishart is just trying make her mum happy, So while her mum thinks that she is working at a PR firm and dating a lawyer named Adam. She is in fact working part-time as a makeup girl in a department store and does have a boyfriend. But now with her little sister wedding come up, Faith is going to need some help out real fast and maybe, just maybe Frank from downstairs can help. "The Makeup Girl" by Andrea Semple is just not "chick-lit" but some thing more. Its about finding your self and just being happy about who really we really are.

wonderful English romantic romp

Not wanting to tell her beloved mom the truth that she is a complete loser, Faith Wishart makes up a false life in which she is the idea creator at a Leeds public relations firm and has a wealthy handsome boyfriend, attorney Adam. Instead she is just THE MAKEUP GIRL working part-time at the cosmetic counter of Blake's Department Store and has no luck with men. Her sister Hope returns from Australia after an international success at Yoga videos to marry a rich hunk; Faith panics because she must bring Adam to the wedding. She lies on her résumé trying to get a job at the biggest PR firm outside of London though one of her bosses died before she worked for him. Still the clock is ticking and though distraught, Faith still treats all her customers with respect even taking the time to listen to geriatric Josie tell her family stories. Her luck seems a bit better when she meets Frank, who she likes, but he is no lawyer. Faith makes this chick lit tale hum as readers will empathize with the web of lies that she is entangled with all because she wanted her mother to be proud of her. Her desperate escapades fail as the clock winds down, but with all her woes and with the probability of being humiliated when her life is exposed as a sham seeming inevitable, Faith still gives her work at the cosmetic counter everything she can; she cares about her customers especially the repeaters. Frank is a nice person who has a million secrets of his own. Andrea Semple provides a wonderful English romantic romp that sub-genre fans will treasure. Harriet Klausner

Great chick lit.

'The Makeup Girl' is about Faith Wishart who want's more than what life has put her way. Ever since her father died things haven't been the same. Her sister Hope ran away to Australia and her brother Mark is anything but close to her. Her mother hasn't been the same either... too sad to deal with anything. So one day her mom has broken down and crying, Faith tells her mother she has finally met a man named Adam who's a big shot lawyer. Mom stops crying in an instant and Faith decides she must keep true to her lies or her mother wont stay happy. Then when sister Hope comes back into town with an engagement of her own faith realizes she has to make her 'made up' life become a reality. Any fan of chick lit will truly enjoy this funny heartwarming book.
