Faboo!

I loved this book - a delicious combination of imaginative story-telling and pictorial enchantment. The narrative has rhythm, rhyme and pace. Simple as well as subtle; traditional with a twist. It makes for captivating reading aloud, and children can understand and pick up the themes and rhythm with ease. The lush and delicate imagery is a perfect compliment to the magical world of a child's imagination wherein we encounter a variety of storyland characters. Careful attention to her friends' needs and a generosity of spirit are justly rewarded at tale's end.Light and as welcome as a breeze on a summer's day.

My chunkiest, funkiest, favorite thing!

'The coat that I wear from the fall to the spring,Is my chunkiest, funkiest, favourite thing,But the six reasons why it's a magical coatAre the buttons that go from the heel to the throat...'So begins this warm and wonderful story of a week in the life of a child whose coat solves the troubles of all those she meets. Of course, by the end of the week she's given all her buttons away, and faces the wrath of her parents. However, the magic she's given away to others comes back to her just as she richly deserves. The book has an ending full of fun and laughter, as all the characters come together to celebrate. The pictures are lovely, and really enhance the words. It's a long time since I've read a story in verse (except for Dr Seuss, of course!) that scans so well and is a real story, too.

Pure picture-book magic

I fell in love with this beautiful book the day I bought it - and it gets better with every reading. A coat with magic buttons is the favourite item of clothing of the adventurous and kind-hearted heroine of the story. Each day she goes out to 'see what she'll see' and every day she meets someone who has a BIG problem - until she gives them a button to cure it. When she comes home buttonless on Sunday her parents are not too pleased - until they realise that the magic is only beginning..... Beautifully written in rollicking rhymes, gorgeously illustrated, a must for every child.... and child at heart.... My husband and I love it, and our children Ben (5) and Tony (2) can't get enough...

Magical

This is a truly imaginative and stimulating, fantastical tale, beautifully written and sumptuously illustrated. My nephew has got me on a mission to make the magical buttons from the story. I can only hope my attempts approach the heights of this wonderful, mystical, marvellous book.

A very hot giant is given a button with the word cold on it, a frozen swan is given the warm button. Soon all six magic buttons are given away. At weeks end the little girl is scolded (mildly) by her parents for loosing her buttons. She looks into the pocket of her coat and finds......? You'll have to read this wonderful book to find out. David Christiana steps up to the plate and hits yet another homer with his wonderful watercolor paintings! The cover picture alone is worth the price of the book!
