The Magical Bluebird is a fictional children's story about a young prince named Oshi who is learning origami from his teacher, Mr. Keni. Oshi has shown such fine progress with his skills that his teacher shares some magical wisdom with Oshi. Being young and impressed by Mr. Keni's abilities, Oshi has to try them out for himself. What begins as an innocent attempt at magic turns into a troubling problem for Oshi.
Oshi is unable to solve these problems alone. He turns to the aid of an old, wise teacher who Oshi happens to know quite well.
The Magical Bluebird is a fantasy story for a young child learning about patience and telling the truth. The elements of imagination and magic allow the reader (and/or listener) to be taken on a whimsical journey with Oshi, as he discovers new insight into powers that are beyond what he ever believed he had.
This story was written by Christine Hallowell and illustrated by her daughter, Serena Hallowell. It is a large, 11x8.5 landscape picture book, offering many colorful views of Oshi's Asian home and garden. Oshi and the people close to him come to life with colorful imagery and an emotional quality that is meant to touch the heart and stir the creative soul.
