The Magic of Fren tells the story of Lunal, a young wizard training in the army of Tutheda, an imaginary land in another place and time from our own. The wizards use their magic to counter the dragon magic from the land of Laoee, and defend their home from the armies of Laoee. With monsters from the jungle of Estrom, the Laocian army wages war on Tutheda. Lunal's land is laid to siege by the forces of Laoee, with armies of men whose minds have been perverted by a dragon spell called the thrawl. The thrawl makes the men slaves to the dragon culture of Laoee. Yet there is more peril at hand for the people of Tutheda. An ancient dragon prince is brought back to life by a Laocian sorcerer. The sorcerer also brings back the ice dragon Indench from the past using an ancient spell to unlock the ancient evil creatures from frozen hibernation. The ice dragon attacks the High Priestess of Lunal's country, who holds the Jewel of Ukad. Both the jewel and the High Prietess are entombed in ice, and all hope is lost for the people of Tutheda. Lunal must break the spell of Omlax to free the High Priestess and save the free people of Fren from ultimate slavery to the thrawl.
This action-pack story tells of Lunal's quest and his encounter with the evil forces of Laoee as he travels into dangerous lands with four companions to learn the secrets of the dragon prince and break the ancient spell that threatens the survival of his people.
