The Magic Hills

Twelve-year-old Sofia spends a quiet summer at home with her dog Barker and her
best friend Eve. She has always loved small creatures (bunnies, dogs, baby chicks) and
secretly wishes that, just once, an animal might speak back.

Then a hunched stranger in a long red cloak appears at the door and vanishes without a
word, and Sofia begins to dream of green rolling hills she has never seen. When she
finally finds them on a walk with Barker, she meets Poppy, a brave little bunny; Rose, a
red bird who delivers the weekly news on a leaf; and a whole hillside of animals who
somehow know her name.

But hidden beneath the biggest hill is a delicate mirror that shows what is yet to come,
and what it shows is a dark mist rolling down to swallow the hills. To save her new
friends, Sofia must find the courage she didn't know she had, and a small kind of magic
she is only just beginning to believe in.
